Job Summary

Job Details: School of Information Sciences: Non-tenure Track (Open Rank) Specialized Faculty Positions (full-time and part-time) The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) seeks to hire outstanding full-time, specialized faculty members at the rank of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, or Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor to join our dynamic and collegial school. In addition, part-time positions are available at the rank of Adjunct Lecturer. The iSchool contributes to several campus wide Data Science efforts on campus where we emphasize the social impact of data science and that building a model is just one step within the broader information lifecycle that includes data ethics, policy, and governance. Other areas of teaching need include discrete mathematics, database design and prototyping, leadership, management, consulting, human centered artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. The ideal candidate will teach primarily on campus. IS 467 Ethics & Policy for Data Science IS 457 Data Storytelling IS 477 Data Management, Curation & Reproducibility IS 524 Data Governance IS 206 Introduction to Database Concepts and Applications IS 445 Data Visualization IS 534 Information Consulting IS 380 Consulting for Information Professionals IS 455 Database Design and Prototyping IS 203 Analytical Foundations for Information Problems IS 401 Introduction to Network Information Systems IS 407 Introduction to Data Science IS 430 Foundations of Information Processing IS 446 Systems Analysis and Design In addition to teaching formal courses (see https://ischool.illinois.edu/degrees-programs/courses), full-time faculty advise iSchool student projects, participate in faculty governance through service committees, and perform other related duties and service as assigned to further the mission of the unit

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requirements (at any level) include teaching experience
  • experience with a variety of teaching tools and technologies
  • deep knowledge of a subject domain related to areas described above
  • and excellence in classroom teaching with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

For a full-time Lecturer position:

  • an M.S. in Information Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required.

For a Teaching Assistant Professor position:

  • a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required.

Highly experienced candidates in areas of curricular need may be considered for the rank of Teaching Associate Professor. All part-time positions are at the rank of Adjunct Lecturer and must have at least an M.S. in Information Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field to be considered.

Appointment Information

The are 100% full-time Specialized Faculty position are appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is 8/16/24. Salaries are commensurate with qualifications, but the minimum salary for full-time positions is \$75,000. The minimum salary for Adjunct Lecturer positions is \$6,800 per course taught.
