The opportunity
The Director, Legal Counsel - Canada Intellectual Property will be responsible for developing and implementing IP strategy for Teva’s generic products for the Canadian market, will advise senior R&D and commercial colleagues, and will manage Canadian IP litigation (innovative and generic).
The position is located at Teva Canada headquarters in Toronto or Montreal, Canada.
How you’ll spend your day
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement generic IP strategy for Teva products in the Canadian market
Determine patent certification, exclusivity and carve-out strategy and tactics for ANDS submissions in Canada
Providing portfolio management and R&D with clearance advice for generic products and advise Commercial/Launch Teams on potential product launch dates
Supporting value-generating business initiatives with patent dispute risk, avoidance, and resolution advice
Manage Canadian patent litigation (innovative and generic), assist in development of claims and defenses
Oversee external counsel, including work product, budget, and invoices
Participate in and/or lead various legal tasks/projects within the greater International Markets environment when needed
Collaborate with other regional and global Legal, Commercial, Portfolio, Regulatory and R&D leaders to ensure alignment and consistency in strategy and operations
Foster the “Legal Tone” for our ethical behaviour, integrity, compliance standards and policies
Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities to stay informed about changes and advocate for the company's interests.

Your experience and qualifications
Law degree (JD or LLB) from a reputable Canadian and admitted to practice in at least one province (admission to Ontario or Quebec preferred). Degree in life sciences-related field an asset.
A minimum 8 years’ experience in intellectual property, in private practice or a combination of private practice and in house counsel.
Prior experience in pharmaceutical patent opinion work is essential
Experience litigating Canada NOC cases required. Track record of successful achievements and progression
Must be a member in good standing of a provincial bar in Ontario and/or Quebec
Strong communication skills
Excellent skills in drafting and editing legal documents
Self-starter, superior organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks
Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of healthcare, Market Trends, Regulatory, Competitors & Customer Insights
