DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Co-op and Internship opportunities allow you to gain valuable work experience across a number of the businesses at TD. The mandate of the TD Compliance Department is to foster a culture of integrity and compliance throughout The Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) globally, to protect our brand and operate within our risk appetite and is designed to maintain confidence in TD by our customers, regulators, investors, and markets.

The scope of the Global Compliance Department's mandate is to provide second line of defense oversight over federal and provincial/state banking, securities and insurance laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines, voluntary codes and public commitments, the Code of Conduct and Ethics and Compliance policies related to TD's activities and practices with respect to regulation of business conduct, and market conduct.

More specifically, the Insurance Compliance function supports the TD Insurance businesses in Canada. TD Insurance includes two sectors: general insurance and life and health insurance.

Our mandate includes:

  • Facilitate the management of regulatory risk by proactively advising the businesses on new and changed processes and initiatives.

  • Create awareness of new regulations and legislation impacting the Direct Channels & Insurance, and identify compliance trends, regulatory priorities and emerging compliance risks.

  • Conduct independent oversight and monitoring activities

  • Employ an integrated approach across different Business Unit Compliance (BUC) groups and with key corporate partners such as Legal, Risk Management, Audit, Privacy, AML and Enterprise Protect (formerly TRM&S). will work with Oversight Functions and Risk Owners across TD.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Reviewing changes to market and conduct rules impacting TD Insurance

  • Reviewing and updating documents, including digitization of Compliance policies, procedures, and other materials

  • Support opportunities to enhance innovation, workflow capabilities and implementation of modernization initiatives

  • Research and prepare written materials including memos on emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory landscape impacting TD Insurance

  • Providing administrative support to Compliance teams, including filing, word processing, and maintaining, and providing information from various compliance-related information databases

  • Assisting with other tasks/projects as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Law, Management, or related field

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree with the intent of going back to school at the start of your work term (requirement of all co-op/intern positions)

  • Ability to work independently, think critically and make decisions

  • Ability to manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities

  • Highly organized and flexible in prioritizing various work demands

  • Able to work collaboratively and as part of a team

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships that impact positively on the execution of deliverables

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
