Our Reading ecology team works on a diverse range of projects, from medium sized residential development schemes, utility refurbishment projects and large DCO development projects, collaborating with our other South-East teams on a regular basis.

job summary

WSP has a large, highly experienced, and friendly Ecology team who get involved with a diverse range of interesting projects across a number of sectors within the UK for both private and public sector clients. In addition to working on UK projects, there are also opportunities to work internationally if desired. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside our in-house water, landscape, arboriculture and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Ecologist into our Reading office to support the growing workload in the south-west of England. The role will involve:

  • Planning and undertaking ecology surveys including UKHabs surveys, BNG assessments and protected species surveys.

  • Input into a range of ecological deliverables including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Management Plans and Protected Species Reports to support Ecological Impact Assessments

  • Client liaison and project management

Requirements

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline and are member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (mentoring is available for upgrade to Full Membership)

  • Demonstrable experience in undertaking UKHabs, BNG assessments and protected species surveys, but other experience will be considered, including voluntary work.

  • An enthusiastic, energetic outlook and willingness to learn.

  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Experience in inputting into technical ecological reports

  • The ability to work in a team of ecologists and environmental professionals

  • Knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation and ecological survey methodologies

  • A desire to develop your core ecological and consultancy skills
