The principal function of an employee in this class is to maintain the mechanical and biological operations of the City\'s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. This class is distinguished from the class of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I and II by the broader scope of responsibility involved in performing as a lead worker on an assigned shift. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a wastewater treatment plant environment with exposure to hazardous chemicals, airborne pathogens, and high voltage electricity.\ \ WHAT YOU WILL DO:\ Essential Functions Statement(s)\ Plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel, including providing approval for the selection of staff, monitoring work schedules, interviewing for new or vacant positions, providing direction when necessary, disciplining as required, managing conflict, and rewarding employee performance when appropriate; or makes recommendations which are given particular weight about the change of status of other employees\ Provide lead direction and training to plant personnel in proper operational and safety procedures\ Observe plant operations to ensure all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with established rules and regulations to ensure safe and continuous operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant\ Collect water samples and sludge at scheduled time intervals and conduct tests on samples to determine plant efficiency and compliance with EPA and State regulations\ Maintain complete and accurate records of plant operation functions, tests, results, and maintenance work performed in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures as required\ Operate a variety of mechanical equipment to regulate the flow of wastewater through various treatment processes and to ensure the production of effluent water\ Perform treatment analysis and processes control tests\ Adjust equipment to maintain treatment parameters and to maintain even flows to ensure maximum efficiency of plant equipment\ Inspect plant equipment and report any failures or operating difficulties to designated personnel as required\ Perform basic maintenance of plant equipment to ensure compliance with established standards, including cleaning, lubricating, and making minor repairs as necessary\ Observe meters, gauges, charts, and instruments and accurately record all findings accordingly\ Ensures all chemicals are handled in a safe and proper manner\ Operates a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles, including backhoes, dump trucks, slinger trucks, tractor-trailer, pickup trucks, vans, tractors, belt press machines, and other related as required\ Maintains the interior and exterior of the Treatment Plant in a clean and orderly manner to ensure a safe work environment for City employees and the general public, including cleaning buildings, sandblasting, and painting equipment and buildings as necessary\ Receives and provides clear, construct ve feedback regarding work performance (to/from individuals or groups) and provides clarification as necessary.\ Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions\ Performs other directly related duties as assigned.\ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
