Bloomberg Weather Reporter in London, United Kingdom

Weather Reporter

London

Posted May 16, 2024 - Requisition No. 125315

Bloomberg is looking for a reporter in London to cover weather and the changing climate.

The weather has never mattered more to markets, economies and governments as a warmer world brings hotter summers, stronger storms and more erratic rainfall. Insurers are paying out record amounts for weather-related losses, crop yields are more unpredictable, and the shift to renewables is tying energy markets to the vagaries of sunshine and wind.

Part of our global energy and commodities team, the successful candidate will serve a broad swathe of Bloomberg clients: from spot news stories on short-term weather patterns to diving into long-term meteorological trends.

We're open to candidates with a range of backgrounds, but want scientifically literate people able to explain complex ideas clearly in a variety of formats. A background in financial journalism would be a bonus. Short of that, we are looking for candidates with a curiosity in how people make money.

The successful candidate will be part of a global network of weather reporters and will work closely with the Green climate team. As we expand our coverage, there will be opportunities to work on video and audio projects as well as a new newsletter product.

We'll trust you to:

  • Analyse weather models and write engaging reports on what to watch for

  • Spot and explain weather patterns and climate trends to a broad audience

  • Be a team player and collaborate closely with colleagues across the newsroom

  • Deliver sophisticated analysis, ambitious features and multi-format stories on weather and climate

You'll need to have:

  • A track-record in communicating scientific ideas

  • Experience in financial journalism is ideal but not essential

  • The ability to write compelling stories quickly

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
