You will lead system definition & system integration aspects of product development in collaboration with highly technical and specialized engineering professionals and scientists to develop our world class XRF and OES spectrometers.

The System Design Engineer plays a central role throughout the different phases of the product development and life cycle. The candidate will have a lead role in next generation product development, from technology evaluation and selection, specifications development, product validation, verification, transfer to manufacturing, and support of customer ramp. This person will be in charge of top level system specifications and configuration. Responsibilities will include designing, planning and leading experiments and trade-off studies required to make major design decisions on complex systems. The candidate must be effective at leading a team of engineers to achieve program goals, and successfully interacting with adjacent functions and team members (technical marketing, operations, procurement, manufacturing, etc.) to consolidate inputs and arrive to optimal system configurations.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design specifications, and performance parameters for spectrometer systems to consolidate inputs and arrive to optimal system configurations.

  • conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, and testing to ensure their functionality, accuracy, and reliability.

  • contribute to the development of innovative technologies and methodologies to improve performance and efficiency

  • Be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, both in the laboratory and in the field.

  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of components, instruments, and software relevant to spectrometer systems.

  • Stay updated with industry advancements and emerging technologies, and may contribute to the development of new product concepts or enhancements to existing spectrometer systems.

  • Drive good engineering practices on projects.

  • Drive resolution of technical issues that may impact product introduction and ramp.

Keys to Success:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.

  • 10+ years of technical leadership in requirements-based product development of complex equipment - spectrometer experience highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability in leading multidisciplinary teams, developing system requirements and making system and process flow design decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability in driving collaborative and innovative solutions under fixed project schedules.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), Proven ability to communicate effectively within the organization and with customers.

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally as needed (20% maximum)

  • English (must have), French is a plus
