_ This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at Verstegen Lab. We investigate the neural circuits and brain centers that control bladder function, exploring how the central nervous system receives and interprets bladder signals and orchestrates physiological responses. The ideal candidate would have experience with mouse colony maintenance and handling. Additional value would be gained from prior expertise with animal behavior testing, cardiac perfusion and tissue dissection, immunohistochemistry, and image quantification. Alongside the management of our mouse colony, you would be an integral part of a supportive and motivated team that uses calcium imaging, optogenetics, and RNA sequencing techniques.

Job Description:

Qualification and Competencies :

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required. • 0-1 years related work experience required. Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Lab-specific Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Life science or related discipline is required

  • Previous lab experience is a plus

  • Motivated and eager to learn

  • Hard-working and organized

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability

Essential Responsibilities :

Lab-specific Responsibilities:

  • Mouse husbandry and transgenic mouse colony management

  • Conduct behavioral tests and analyze the results

  • Collaborate with team members to perform research experiments

  • Perform brain and spinal cord histology and immunohistochemistry

  • Maintain accurate electronic records of experimental data

  • Assist with data analysis using MATLAB.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
