Amazon Sr Associate Analyst- VAT in Bangalore, India

Amazon’s diverse online business requires VAT filings in a number of jurisdictions across Europe and creates specific VAT compliance obligations relating to third parties (3P) that sell via our websites. These 3P obligations are the responsibility of the European VAT Compliance & Controllership team (VAT C&C) which is located primarily in London and Bratislava. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic VAT Analyst to join VAT C&C team in India. This will involve working within the part of the team that is responsible for checking the VAT compliance status of our 3P sellers, providing 3P data to tax authorities, and controlling the access of 3P sellers to our websites. Work may also include some mainstream VAT compliance activities, supporting internal and external audits, and liaising with colleagues in VAT C&C as well as Tax and the wider business.You may also be involved in projects that have a VAT compliance impact. You will be expected to take ownership of your activities, identify process improvement opportunities for existing process and controls, and drive positive change across the organization.

Productivity and quality assurance will be evaluated along with the overall/LP contribution to the development of the department.

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter that can work independently in a fast paced, ambiguous environment with limited supervision. The candidate must be a fast learner, who can quickly absorb the nuances of Amazon’s varied payment offerings, its risks, internal systems, and regulatory requirements. The candidate should demonstrate high analytical ability in decision making and excellent written communication.

Basic/Preferred Qualification:

• Demonstrate flexibility to work in different tasks with increased complexity based on current business needs

• Analyses data through the use of data mining to drive decision and participates in deep dives and handling escalations

• Clear, crisp, and proactive documentation of operational procedures required to tackle known risk related patterns;

• Works on projects that design/ improve tools or processes by testing / or develops recommendations for leadership

• Will provide inputs to improve the quality for new batch hires and existing team.

• Communicates effectively both in verbal and written form on all investigative matters

• Executes on key team priorities and assists team mates with execution

• Supports new hires or focus group in the team to help them meet required performance standards.

• Able to take ownership of work, implement change, and demonstrate a problem-solving approach;

• Ability to effectively manage time, and individually prioritize multiple tasks of competing priority

• Internal Candidate: Should be an L4 IC with a strong process knowledge in investigation with a proven track record of consistent performance for last 12+ months

• Internal Candidate: Should have a minimum of 12 months tenure (beyond Training and Ramp duration) as an Sr. Investigation specialist/Analyst.

• External Candidate should have minimum 4+ years of experience in E-commerce/Healthcare/banking KYC performing Research/Investigation with minimum tenure of 12 months in the current/previous role (beyond Training and Ramp duration)

• Applicant should not have been part of any Performance/Dev plan in the last one year

• Ability to interact with cross cultural VAT functional teams

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel • MS Office

• Working within the EMEA VAT C&C team:

• Confirm the VAT registration and compliance status of 3P sellers;

• Provide transactional and other data to tax authorities in respect of 3P sellers;

• Manage and control access of 3P sellers to Amazon marketplaces based on VAT compliance status and requests from tax authorities;

• Assist with VAT registrations across various jurisdictions;

• Respond to VAT compliance queries from Amazon businesses operating across Europe;

• Provide internal and external audit support, including data analysis;

• Provide support to colleagues throughout the business and, in particular, accounting groups;

• Participate in cross-functional projects;

• Actively map VAT compliance processes and identify areas for improvement;
